Well, yesterday was very exciting!! First of all, we had about 6 inches of snow fall. That is the most snow we
have seen since 2000. That is about 15 cm. The girls were so overwhelmed that Sammie was up at 4:45 am looking at it falling. Well, she did have a bad dream (that is what woke her up) but then she came in and woke me up to see the falling snow. After about 20 minutes of us snuggling and watching the snow, I told her I was going back to bed and she stayed out in the sunroom, watching it until she fell asleep.
Then first thing in the morning, both girls wanted to go out. We held them
off for a little while but then bundled them both. Paul and the girls went out and had a blast.
Also, yesterday I went to the hospital because I wasn't sure whether I was going into labor. I laid on the couch for a while in the morning trying to determine what to do. I called Jenni (of course) who is my good friend, but also a labor and delivery nurse, then my sister. Heather said, go ahead and go to the hospital, just in case and she would send over Patience and Sydney (my nieces) to watch the girls. So my brother-in-law, Jamey brought the girls over to my house and then escorted us to the hospital (after all, he has a 4x4 outback and we weren't sure how the roads were going to be.....Sanford shuts down when it snows). It turned out to be a false alarm, which I was relieved about. But it would've been neat to have a baby on such a big snow day and also inauguration day. That would've been a day to remember. Well, I guess I'll never forget that day.
Oh, so one thing I have to mention...then I can put it to rest. Paul and I get up to the hospital desk in the delivery ward and proceed to check in. The girl at the desk (Christy) asks how far along I am and I say,
"36 weeks and 3 days".
She then says,
"well, I hope this isn't a boy, because boys are very sickly and weak at 36 weeks".
Paul says to her that those are not very encouraging words and he goes downstairs to check me in. Christy brings me into the room and begins to make the bed and tell me,
"yeah.....if you have this baby today, he probably won't be breathing when he comes out and will have to be put in the nicu."
My mouth just drops. I mean, what do you say to someone like that. So as soon as she leaves the room, I just begin to pray....for Nico's health......speaking encouraging words. I could not believe it!!! You just don't say things like that to a pregnant woman!! Of course, I am not the kind of person to let her have it (Paul is my wonderful defender) but I sure did tell the nurse about it when she came in to see me.

What a crazy woman that was, to say something like that.
Better let the Hospital know about her.
Nice pictures with all that snow, and I can imagin the girls were having fun.

I'd definately write the hospital...that kind of stress if you WERE In labour could have endangered the baby!! What if you had a blood pressure spike? You have to be calm in labour, especially if there could be complications. What a dumb nurse. I'd totally write a letter....
I'm glad Nico is alright!
Oh...and I have a friend who always has her babies WEEKS early, they are all boys...and even tho they had to stay in the hospital a bit longer, they were ALL fine (and she had BIG complications all along...)
Hospitals!! They have no bedside manners, do they?!
They could have just told that to Paul and not to you. They are so big on getting the information out there without the skill of tact. I'm glad that Nico is still in the best place he can be right now. Thank the LORD!
. . . . but it shouldn't be too long now, hey? We are all excited and praying for a wonderful birth for Nico and for you. Love you!
Hi Jennifer,
I'm looking at this after Oma told me about Nico's safe arrival.
Reading those comments by the so called nurses made me sputter in anger; there is no excuse for comments like that to a mother who may be giving birth to a premature baby. They have not learned very much about supporting the patient. Our students would have failed their clinical if they had made comments like that. The hospital should definatly here about it
