Homemade Food
Well, the older I get, the more I learn about myself. One thing I know about myself is that I LOVE to bake. I'm not the best at cooking, but baking makes me feel so good. I love to make things from scratch, knowing that it is providing better quality than processed food from the store.
Some of my most loved items to bake:
bread, blueberry muffins, coffee cake, pumpkin bread, walnut bran muffins, bagels, buttermilk biscuits, mock cinnabon cinnamin buns, chocolate chip cookies, granola, Thomas Jefferson biscuits, and more.
One thing I've learned lately is that when wheat is ground, it looses about 75% of its nutrients within 72 hours. A friend of mine suggested that I order wheat grains (some people call them wheat berries) from a company in Montana called The Montana Wheat Company. She let me have some of her wheat berries to grind at home. When I baked the bread, it tasted almost like white bread. The wheat was sooo good.
Another thing I've learned is that I can make my own vanilla. Vanilla is so expensive in the grocery store, but so cheap and easy to make myself. I now will have enough vanilla to last for years!! I found the recipe for homemade vanilla from my book- Super Baby Food. A friend lent this book to me when I had Eliana. That is when I became aware of making my own baby food. So when I had Nico, I bought the book for myself. One meal that the Author recommends is Super Baby porridge. She says that when she brings her kids to the Doctor, they tell her that she has the healthiest kids they've ever met.
I love making the most of being a stay-at-home mom!
